Clive qualified with Ernst & Young in 1989 and joined the newly formed Corporate Finance team in the Southampton office at this time. He remained at E&Y in corporate finance until 1997 during which time he led a number of leveraged transactions, company disposals and due diligence assignments. In addition, he spent two years with NatWest Bank on secondment from E&Y from 1993 to 1995 where he worked with the business development team on new leverage transactions or larger complex corporate lending proposals.
In 1997 he founded DHD Corporate Finance with Simon Davies and Harry Dhand from offices in Southampton. The business grew rapidly and established a second office in Reading in 1999. The business was sold in 2001 to Tenon Group plc having completed nearly £500m of transactions over the four years since the start up in 1997. Within Tenon, Clive was a Director within the newly formed national corporate finance business which traded as Tenon Livingstone Guarantee ("TLG"). During his time at DHD and TLG, Clive completed over 30 transactions which included the £62m disposal of Robert Dyas to Change Capital Partners, the £24m disposal of Jobsite to Manpower and £20m MBO of Land of Leather.
Clive left TLG in 2004 to join the Land of Leather management buy-out. He was appointed CFO and led the business through growth from £100m turnover to £240m turnover in four years and floated the company on the Full List in 2005 with an initial market capitalisation of £80m. He joined Allied Carpets in 2009 as acting CFO to see the newly restructured business through its first year post acquisition by its new private equity owners, Hilco UK.
Clive has also acted as a non-executive director on private companies in the IT Reseller and Pharmaceutical Packaging Distribution sectors.
As a Managing Director at Spectrum, Clive brings his in depth commercial experience to bear on mandates, ensuring that companies are presented to market at the right time, and in the best way.
Out of working hours, Clive enjoys tennis, golf and football (time and energy permitting!) as well as spending time with his family.
“We met Clive from Spectrum and immediately realised that he was a consummate professional who instantly recognised the ethical dimension of the work we were doing and why it was important to make "Natural and Mild IVF" widely available. Clive took us painlessly through the complex process of securing private equity funding. We will always be grateful to them for their time and expertise in completing this deal in a remarkably short period of time.”Professor Geeta Nargund, CEO and Owner, Create Health Limited
